Not just Asanas
In Aware Body & Mind Centre, we practice Asanas but not just asanas. In the yoga session, we invite you to be aware of your breathing(Pranayama), energy flow(Chakra) and also the coordination of your body movement. It is all about living in the moment with asanas. We want to create an experience for you to feel your whole self and bring the experience to your daily life. Pranayama will be practiced to enhance clarity and calmness. You will feel calm, relax and rejuvenated. Over 10 minutes of Shavasana(complete rest) is expected in each session.
Be aware
Yoga is more like a lifestyle or philosophy than an exercise. Health is just a side-benefit on the road of practicing yoga, the ultimate goal is Samadhi which is a state of meditative consciousness. Asana practice is good, but when we focus too much on it, we loose our balance. Some are too enthusiastic about challenging asanas without awareness, it would result in injuries and pain.
When you first get into an headstands, you feel awesome and energetic. Then you try an handstand, you start to struggle, but the vibes around lead you to challenge yourself more. After practicing, you are capable to do it but feeling exhausted. Time goes by, you forget the beauty of how you enjoyed asanas with ease. Again, there is no right or wrong in any matter, we could still challenge ourselves if we feel like, we do not judge anybody in doing anything. Aware Body & Mind Centre provides you another way to experience yoga, we value openness and diversity.

8 limbs of yoga

1.Yama
Yama is known as “guidelines of social behavior”. There are 5 general guidelines: nonviolence, speaking the truth, appropriate sexual control, living an honest life and being generous. The guidelines helps you live with others in harmony.

2.Niyama
Niyama is known as “guidelines of personal behavior”. There are 5 general guidelines: purity, contentment, discipline, spiritual exploration and surrender to the divine. The guideline helps you to take care of your very own self.

3.Asana
Asana is often known as “seat” or “position”, and all of the yoga postures are helping you to meditate in a seated position without discomfort. At a deeper level, it is related to the awareness of your body, mind and soul. Practicing asanas in full awareness benefits all your body, mind and soul, you will have a united expression of them.

4.Pranayama
Prana means “life force”, it is similar to the “qi” in Chinese medicine, blockages in prone may lead to diseases. Pranayama means mastering the life force, by practicing breathing, mind and body will become more clear and calm.

5.Pratyahara
Starting from the fifth limb, it is more about your mind, consciousness and awareness. Pratyahara is the withdrawal of senses. In meditation or mindfulness practice, we try to withdraw the sense from outside and feel from within. All of the sense actually are from inside though the stimulus are from outside.

6.Dharana
It is all about intention and attention. Intention and attention are like prayers to the divine, whatever you think, you become. Practice pure and good intention in your life and love others unconditionally.

7.Dhyana
Dhyana is about experiencing life, you are just an experiencer of the life events you have been encountering. You are aware of the things happening around and your own thought, but you are neutral and being open to all the possibilities of life.

8.Samadhi
Samadhi is the highest state of consciousness and it is the closest to the divine. Enlightenment or bliss are the other two words to describe the stage. It is a complete surrender to the Higher Self and we let go all our egos at this stage. Reaching this state is rare as it is beyond time, space or even physical matters.
